Almost any interaction with customers can be used to recruit them as members to your loyalty program. A key aspect in recruiting successfully is that you can collect consent from customers before they download the app and start issuing rewards using our automatic activation module, give stamps on stamp cards using auto stamps or other promotions. You can then use these rewards and reminders to encourage them to download your app.
Recruiting on your POS
Your strongest channel for recruiting members to your loyalty programme is your store employees. To help them do that successfully, it has to be quick and easy for the customer.
We recommend you only ask for a phone number in store to sign up. And if your employees can type the number directly on your POS, even better.
The POS sends the phone number to us and we issue the consent form, register them and if you have loyalty cards, give them any stamps they are entitled to.
Smart SMS Flows
One simple idea is to set up a smart SMS journey to recruit your customers to your app.
Simply create a codeword and display it prominently on your outdoor boards, in-store digital screens and in-store collateral. We recommend you offer them an instant reward for taking action too, so the value exchange is clear to the customer .
The message can be “Are you not an app user yet? Text COFFEE to < short number> and get a coupon for a free coffee in your app”.
Instead of only pushing the download link to the app in the SMS we recommend asking for marketing consent which we capture on a simple consent page. After giving consent, the first reward coupon is issued and the download link appears. Once the consumer downloads and registers, she will find her free coffee coupon ready and waiting in her account.
If however the consumer does not download the app immediately, you still have her consent. This gives you permission to send her an SMS reminder before the coupon expires as a reminder and reward for downloading the app.
From the Payment Terminal
Some payment terminal providers can recognise when a payment card is not registered in your member base, and prompts the customer to input her mobile number. This is a fantastic opportunity to link payment cards with your existing members, but also a simple, quick and easy way to recruit new members too.
If both the payment card and mobile number are unknown to you (the customer is not yet a member) the Liquid Barcodes loyalty marketing platform can automatically send an SMS to this particular customer with the terms and conditions for the app, and a link to download the app. The next time she pays, she can start collecting stamps and earn rewards without even downloading the app. You can follow up at a later stage to remind her to download the app.
Mobile Payment Providers
Mobile payment methods can be used for recruiting like other payment methods, but many of them already have loyalty mechanics that work together with retailer programs. This makes it easy to connect your program with the mobile payment method.
Use your wifi screen to invite registration
When consumers logon to your wifi, either with their mobile number, e-mail or Facebook/Twitter account, you should ask for consent and invite the consumer to download your loyalty app. As always, the value exchange and customer proposition should be clear – and ideally include an immediate reward for registration.
In a world of instant gratification, it’s exciting for customers to see her reward, discount or free stuff waiting for her as soon as she downloads it.
If she does not download it immediately, you can use our activation module to define rules to send reminders to download and register, for example remind her when the reward is about to expire.
